• Very detailed map of “French Louisiana.”
• This map is a product of surveys conducted by French engineers, including Messieurs Broutin and de Vergés, with the assistance of the cartographer Saucier. Its focus is the network of rivers, trails, roads, key settlements, and forts that were essential for transportation, trade, and military logistics in the efforts of the French to colonize the area.
• Depicts some topography and relationship of towns to landscape setting, as well as travel routes.
• Map notations include numbers, names, and other observations, and includes the “Thome,” “Naniaba,” “Mobiliens,” “Apalach.,” “Taouachas” on the west side of the river and delta, with the “Tensa,” “Apalaches,” and “Taoucachas” on the east side. It appears the Yamasse are shown in the vicinity of Dog River.
