• Depicts locations of Indigenous towns villages encountered by La Salle during his explorations of the coast.
• From: L'Atlas curieux / N. de Fer. Map based on the travels of Mr. de la Salle in 1683 and D’Iberville in 1698/1699.
• The map depicts Fort Maurepas, settled by D’Iberville in 1699, and significantly more towns in the area claimed by the French as Louisiana than previous maps.
• The towns of "Achusi" and "Tasculasa" depicted on previous maps are not identified.
• A cluster of six towns north of Pascagoula is likely Six Towns.
• Fer was a cartographer, engraver, and map publisher. He was known for his artistic maps, although they are generally not as accurate as his contemporary cartographer, Guillaume De L'Isle.
